Theoretical Isotherms for Monolayer Adsorption on Heterogeneous Surfaces

چکیده
Theoretical isotherms for monolayer adsorption on heterogeneous surfaces have been obtained on the basis of the Langmuirian local isotherm and three different distribution functions of adsorption energies (Boltzmann, quasi-Gaussian and shifted quasi-Gaussian distribution functions). The isotherm obtained with the Boltzmann distribution function proposed 40 years ago by Glueckauf predicts well the maximum surface coverage, Freundlich region, as well as Henry behaviour at extremely low surface coverages. It has been demonstrated that the so–called Dubinin Radushkevich isotherm appears in the transition between the Freundlich and Henry regions if the upper limit to the energy of adsorption is high enough. The isotherm obtained with the quasi-Gaussian distribution function also predicts well the maximum surface coverage and reduces to the Henry region at low surface coverages. Shifted quasi-Gaussian adsorption energy distribution function suggested by Cerofolini et al. results in mixed isotherms between these two extreme cases. Transition between these two types of adsorption energy distributions can also result in the appearance of the so–called Dubinin Radushkevich behaviour in a certain range of adsorbate concentrations . Multilayer Adsorption of Polyatomic Species on Homogeneous and Heterogeneous Surfaces
In this work we study the multilayer adsorption of polyatomic species on homogeneous and heterogeneous bivariate surfaces. A new approximate analytic isotherm is obtained and validated by comparing with Monte Carlo simulation. Then, we use the well-known Brunauer-Emmet-Teller’s (BET) approach to analyze these isotherms and to estimate the monolayer volume, vm. The results show that the value of...
متن کاملNon-Dissociative Gas Adsorption with Different Chemisorption Geometries on Nanoporous Surfaces
Isotherm equation is one of the important scientific bases for adsorbent selection. There are different isotherms that do not account for an adsorbate, different chemisorption geometries on the nanoporous surface. It is interesting to introduce a general isotherm, which considers different chemisorption geometries of an adsorbate on nanoporous surfaces. In this study, an isotherm for non-dissoci...
متن کاملConsistent approach to adsorption thermodynamics on heterogeneous surfaces using different empirical energy distribution models.
Adsorption on heterogeneous surfaces with three basic energy distribution models (uniform model, exponential model, and normal-like model) is studied. Exact analytical solutions of the adsorption isotherms and the heats of adsorption are derived for the uniform and exponential models, and, with these solutions including a numerical solution for the normal-like model, the behavior of the differe...
متن کاملMagnetic Langmuir-Blodgett films of ferritin with different iron contents.
Magnetic Langmuir-Blodgett films of four ferritin derivatives with different iron contents containing 4220, 3062, 2200, and 1200 iron atoms, respectively, have been prepared by using the adsorption properties of a 6/1 mixed monolayer of methyl stearate (SME) and dioctadecyldimethylammonium bromide (DODA). The molecular organization of the mixed SME/DODA monolayer is strongly affected by the pre...
